Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Triaged a comprehensive portfolio of proprietary technologies residing in WPI’s Bioengineering Institute, focusing on market potential, competitive advantage, technology readiness level, ability to commercialize and strength of intellectual property. Based on this initial work, chose four promising technologies for detailed analysis. For these four technologies, conducted detailed market/segmentation analysis, competitive analysis, pricing study, technology and intellectual property assessment. Developed go-to-market strategies and recommended next steps to grow businesses around these technologies, including further technical development, capitalization, strategic partnering and out-licensing. By building on the results of this engagement, the client is well-positioned to build successful businesses around these technologies.

SimCenter Enterprises (spin-off from University of Tennessee at Chattanooga)

SimCenter Enterprises has developed a novel, computational fluid dynamics based tool that combines plume dispersion modeling and agent based modeling for facilitating more effective emergency planning, preparedness and response. Conducted a comprehensive market/industry/competitive analysis across a broad spectrum of industry sectors and segments related to this new technology. Developed and implemented a comprehensive marketing/commercialization strategy, including a go-to-market plan and tiered pricing strategy. Developed a pilot execution program into the commercial nuclear power sector. Led business development efforts across both commercial and government (Federal, state and local) sectors. Efforts have enabled SimCenter Enterprises to position itself for growth in these markets.

Turning Point International

Provided strategic direction, operations and project management support. Performed a comprehensive strategic, technical and economic feasibility study in support of the piloting and commercialization of a novel energy and coal sequestration technology. Employed nationally renowned labs, scientists and engineers to evaluate the science and scalability of this technology. Conducted a detailed intellectual property assessment. Based on this study, a recommendation was made not to proceed with commercialization, resulting in avoidance of millions of dollars in potential investment losses.

iCarnegie

Responsible for all aspects of financial and operational management of training/e-learning spin-off from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Developed business plan, provided strategic guidance and leadership, developed and implemented operating infrastructure. This work facilitated the capitalization of the company, the successful spin-off from CMU and growth internationally.
